9/10

Petit Arvine 2017 Domaine René Favre, Valais, Switzerland

Long been a favourite of mine  so good to see John Wilson giving this charmer a shout out in his Irish Times column. Long been a favourite of mine for the linear minerality that has you unprepared for the fruit rush as the wine settles in the mouth. Poise, balance, complexity, loads to recommend it. Great with plain or sparingly sauced fish.

The Corkscrew, Dublin 2; Searson’s, Monkstown; Gibneys, Malahide.

8.6/10

Chateau Penin 2015, Bordeaux Supérieur

A fair whack of (I suspect) merlot fruit, soft but not too jammy with enough acidity to keep the wine honest. Fair value for the ask.
